Welcome
this manual is still work in progress, but you should be fine with it to get SmarthoneRTK running. If you are struggling at any stage, please let us know by submitting a support ticket. Submit a new Ticket here
1) Shipping content
- SmartphoneRTK "evo" incl. a tiltable L1/L2/e5b GNSS antenna
- stickyMetal sheets for attaching to Smartphone housing to mount the magnetic SmartphoneRTK device
- USB cable
- transport box
2) How to attach the device to your smartphone
Get yourself a nice Smartphone cover an stick the metal sheets on it. We recommend the case to be a spare part as it is not very comfortable to have these metal sheets sticked on all the time.
3) Button and LEDs
There is one BUTTON which you need to press twice (slowly) to turn the device ON. To power OFF, hold the same button.
The LEDs are:
- On/#Satellites: (GREEN) After powering on, this LED is on permenently. As soon as satellites and a geolocation is determined, it indicates the number of satellites very 30 seconds by flashing the number of satellites.
- RTK status (BLUE) is off if no correction data is used. This means you are still in meters accuracy. As soon as you are in a FLOAT solution, the LED is blinking and a constant on indicates the FIX solution.
- Battery charge: usually its off, but if its flashing fast you have to charge the device for couple of hours using the USB port. During charging and when its on, its flashing slowly.
4) Communication
a. USB
The USB 3 port is used to CHARGE the device. Please note, that it is a 500mA port only, so it will take 3 hours to charge the device if its totally discharged. You can charge, even if the device is not powered on.
b. Bluetooth
The Bluetooth connection is used for all GNSS communication. The connection is used to a) transform the RTCM correction data from smartphone to device and b) provide NMEA and RINEX messages to the smartphone. So it is a bi-directional communication.
You will need a compatible APP on your Android phone to handle all this tasks.
What Apps are suggested?
- Of course, for taking RTK geotagged photos and take photos for 3D photogrammetry we suggest using our RTKcamera App. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=at.redcatch.rtkcamera&hl=en
- But there are multiple others, like SW-Maps that can be used eg. to record or stake out points.
