Introduction to WLAN modes
the "operational" connection: The 3D ImageVector connects to your Smartphones Hotspot and will use Smartphones Internet connection to receive RTK correction data. This connection is default after turning on the device and is used during field work.
The "base station mode" is is to set up the 3D ImageVector and configure it for later field work.
How To Configure for RTK
To configure it (first time use) the following steps are crucial:
- enable "base station mode" on the Logger to enable a temporary hotspot
- Connect your Smarpthone to this temporary hotspot
- Open a configuration website in any browser
- Enter your Smartphone Hotspot information
- Enter NTRIP credentials
- End configuration by disabling "base station mode"
- Test it outdoor
ad 1) Enable Base station mode
Press the hidden button on the 3D ImageVector logger with a pencil and hold for 3 seconds
The change from application mode to base station mode is indicated when the WLAN LED
- is rapidly flashing for a second and
- afterwards pulsing that signalises that the Hotspot has been activated with the name "REDcatch-NTRIP".
ad 2) Connect your Smartphone to temporary Hotspot
Now search for this network on your mobile device, ensuring that WLAN is turned on. Use the
password "redcatch" to access.
The successful connection will be indicated on your smartphone
Troubleshoot: For Android11+, please deactivate "Mobile Data" temporary.
ad 3) Open configuration website
Open an internet browser (Chrome, Safari etc.) on your mobile device (if Safari does not respond please use another browser like Chrome)
Enter the URL 192.168.5.1 into the address bar. Check that you enter it correctly.
The configuration website will open
ad 4) Enter smartphone hotspot access information
Scroll down on the configuration website.
• Enter the access data under „WiFi Config“
• In the first line, enter your preferred hotspot name, also known as the SSID
• In the second line, enter your preferred password. Pay close attention to upper and low-er case letters.
• „Use DHCP server“ should be selected by default.
Hotspot Name
Password
Use DHCP server (recommended) or you can use a fixed IP address.
Attention: Note upper and lower case and AVOID spaces like in "i phone". In case, please rename your hotspot.
ad 5) NTRIP/RTCM broadcaster access data
Scroll down to the section „NTRIP Config“. The access data for the correction service is entered here.
IP-Address or URL of the service provider e.g. www.eposa.at
Port / TCP Port, e.g. 2101
Mountpoint selects the data stream, e.g. RTK-32-4G-TR
Username that you use with your service provider
Password for your service provider
After you have entered all of the information, press „Click to save“ to permanently save the information. Note that there is no validity check on the data you entered. You must carefully enter it and double check it yourself!
ad 6) Ending the configuration
- Close the browser on your mobile device
- Leave base station mode by pressing the button on the logger again with a pen and holding for 3 seconds.
- The WLAN LED will flash rapidly indicating that the operating status has changed back to application mode.
If the connection is successful, the WLAN LED on the logger lights up continuously.
ad 7) Testing
- Go outside to a place with good GNSS reception
- Turn the 3D ImageVector on by connecting the camera add-on cable to the data logger
- Wait until the LED indicating the number of satellites blinks 7 or more times per cycle (i.e. wait until you have reception from at least 7 satellites).
- Activate the hotspot on your mobile device
- The WLAN LED should change from slowly flashing to a steady light. The connection between 3D ImageVector and mobile device is now active.
- After a few seconds (up to a maximum of one minute), the continuously lit up WLAN LED should contain a very slight flicker. These flickers confirm the sending and receipt of correction data.
- With good satellite reception, the RTK/status LED should either blink, indicating a float solution, or light up steadily, which indicates a fix solution
- You can now start recording images and project data.
Troubleshooting with iPhone12+
When using an iPhone 12+ as a hotspot, please activate the compatibility mode on the iPhone to enable a connection to the 3D ImageVector. Enable “Maximize Compatibility”
